An Airy End

Listen to the song: An Airy End

‘Twas a dark and stormy night

Thundering above.

Both were spoiling for a fight,

With lots of push and shove.

He came at her, stiff and proud,

Fierce face quite absurd,

He flashed down from a cloud,

Yes, he was a bird!

She stood her ground, looking mean,

Sharpened claws ready,

He failed to brake or lean – or

Even steady.

Down, down he came, careless freak,

Heedless of his fate,

He opened wide his beak

And, oh, dear, mate!

Because he was just a sparrow,

Even though all heart,

Through the  lion, like an arrow

Out as a little…!

Butterfly

Listen to the song:  Butterfly

Flutter by, butterfly,

Wings of blue

Shimmering rainbows

Ev’ry hue.

Flutter by, butterfly,

Wings of green

Shimmering rainbows

Magic seen.

Flutter by, butterfly,

Wings of gold

Shimmering rainbows

Not to hold.

Flutter by, butterfly,

Wings of me

Shimmering rainbows

Flying free.

Ev’ry hue.

Magic seen.

Not to hold.

Flying free.

Wings of blue

Wings of green

Wings of gold

Wings of me

Wings of me

Wings of me

Wings of me

Butterfly.

Butterfly.

Butterfly.

Butterfly.

Butterfly.

Don't Be Afraid

Listen to the song:   Don’t Be Afraid

Don’t be afraid just to go with your dreams,

Don’t be afraid of tomorrow.

Life isn’t always the way that it seems,

Go, give the dice another throw my friend.

Though other people can’t understand,

Hope is a star shining there for you.

Go on and live ev’ry day of your life

And you’ll have set yourself free.

Sometimes dark things abound

Light fades aaway

Closing around

But there’s always a way...

Sometimes joy disappears

Ending the day - leaving just fears.

But there’s always a way...

Sometimes there’s only pain

Where’s life’s bouquet? What's there to gain?

But there’s always a way...

There’s always a way.

Always a way.

Always a way.

There’s always a way.

Always a way.

Do You Ever Dream?

(with Ken Bayly)

Listen to the song: Do You Ever Dream?

Do you ever dream of flying through the air,

And watching the world so far away,

Away down there?

Do you ever dream that you could

Fly away wherever you wanted to?

’Cross hills and trees to where you’ve always longed to be.

Higher, further, stronger – go!

Lift yourself there, oh, dare!

Fly high, through the sky.

Dream your dream.

So, if you have a dream, a dream you should share -

Then there’d be dreamers everywhere!

Dream on, dreamer, you’ve nothing to lose!

Dream on, my friend, there’s everything to gain!

Dream on, dream on, paint those rainbow hues and

Dream away the rain!

Do you ever dream of floating out in space

And watching the stars so far away,

Away out there?

Do you ever dream that you could

Float wherever you wanted to?

Past Earth and Mars to where you’ve always longed to be.

Do you ever dream of diving ’neath the sea

And watching the fish so deep away,

Away down there?

Do you ever dream that you could swim wherever you wanted to?

Below the waves to where you’ve always longed to be.

Ev'ry day is Opening Night

Listen to the song: Ev’ry day is Opening Night

Get out, get in, get up, get round -

All the world's a stage!

He said it then, and he was right,

Writ large on every page.

All the world's a stage, my friends, you

Know this over all, so

Get out, get in, get up, get round -

It's time for curtain call!

The curtain is up, the lights are ablaze,

A buzzing fills the air.

Melodies rise as the orchestra plays

And excitement's everywhere.

The curtain is up, we're rarin' to go,

They're standing in the aisles.

What can we say at the start of the show

Up here's a land of smiles!

Life is such a marvellous thing-

We never know what tomorrow might bring,

So whether you're pauper, a poet or a king

Come, join us as we sing:

The curtain is up, the lights are ablaze,

A buzzing fills the air.

Melodies rise as the orchestra plays

And excitement's everywhere.

Come out, come in, come up, come round -

Come to showtime's fair!

For countless years we've trod the boards

And acted everywhere.

All the world's a stage, we know, where

You can have a ball, so

Come out, come in, come up, come round -

It's time for curtain call!

The curtain is up on our day of days,

We're singing with such might!

Happiness hangs across all of our days

And ev'ry day is op'ning night!

Flower or Bee?

Listen to the song: Flower or Bee

Round and round and round it goes,

Like a bee, a bumblebee, a humble bee.

From flow’r to flow’r love grows

Silently, so stealthily.

Hearts begin to pound, astound -

But not a bee, not any bee, nor any bee

Could he paint love’s…glorious sound.

Is he a flow’r, is he a bee?

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh, fleurs, oh fleurs, oh fleurs, Fleurs-de-lys.

Round and round and round it flies,

Like a bee, a lovely bee, a honeybee.

From flow’r to flow’r it…sighs,

In middle C, or is it E?

An elvan bee, an elvan bee –

All hearts aglow, begins to…flow, starts and grows,

But what is it, an…elvan bee?

Nobody…knows, just nobody knows.

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh fleurs, oh fleurs, oh fleurs, Fleurs-de-lys.

Round and round and round we hum,

Not a bee, not…ordin’ry,

From flow’r to flow’r a…drummetty drummy drum,

Thump, drump…stumpingly…cleverly.

Off the ground, without a sound

Not very slow, well hello! By the…sea

Maybe we have…sinn’d, or never found -

Is he a flow’r, or the bee?

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh fleurs, oh fleurs, oh fleurs, Fleurs-de-lys.

Round and round and round I swing,

Is he for me, my elvan bee?

From flow’r to flow’r, I sing.

Is he my destiny?

He and I, bound by a sigh.

Is that all, or do I lie in wait and see?

Can love deny, or say goodbye?

Is my dear elvan bee for me?

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh fleurs, oh fleurs, oh fleurs, Fleurs-de-lys.

Round and round and round it goes,

A flock of bees, quite flighty…honeybees,

Just hopeful beaux, who knows -

Love…eternally?

Round and round and round it goes,

From flow’r to flow’r, higher, higher, bursting free

The lows and highs, the highs and lows -

Sometimes the flow’r, sometimes the bee.

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh, Fleurs-de-lys,

Oh fleurs, oh fleurs, oh fleurs, Fleurs-de-lys.

Heave Ho!

Listen to the song: Heave Ho!

HEAVE HO!

Raise the sail, man,

Raise the sail!

Heave ho!

Set the course, man,

Set the course!

Heave ho!

Feed the fish, man,

Feed the fish!

Heave ho!

Learn to swim, man,

Learn to swim!

Too late!

Heave ho! heave ho,

Over the side we go.

Heave ho! heave ho,

At low tide and high tide we go.

It’s better’n, better’n,

Better’n than be’n inside!

‘Too late!’ she cried,

As she tried and tried to

Sit astride of the

Raging tide.

‘Too late!’ she cried.

‘Too late. Too late,

‘Too late

‘To wait!’

Raise the sail!

Set the course!

Feed the fish!

Learn to swim!

Too late. Too late.

Too late.

Can’t wait!

Fish bait!

(Music by Suno AI)

I Love a Cliche

Listen to the song: I Love a Cliche

…I want to

Put a cat among the pigeons

A flea in someone's ear,

Engage in a flight of fancy,

To sink some really small beer!

I want to sail across the seas

And plumb the ocean deep;

To do exactly as I please,

And have my beauty sleep!

Yes, I know these are all hackneyed phrases,

You know, the proverbial whatsisname,

But, no matter what you say, come what may,

It's OK by me, thanks all the same!

'Cos I want to

Fight the good fight, all ends up,

And have an axe to grind,

Know just how many beans make five,

To say, 'How terribly kind!'

I want a fair crack of the whip,

Come home on the pig's back;

Go on that fabulous trip -

But, of course, on the right track!

Yes, I know these are all hackneyed phrases,

You know, the proverbial whatsisname,

But, no matter what you say, come what may,

It's OK by me, thanks all the same!

…'Cos I want to

Burn the candle at both ends

And go from bad to worse,

Never 'be there always for my friends' -

Know it all, chapter and verse!

I want to drown the impossible dream

And never have enough,

Ford the deepest bloody stream

And to never give a stuff!

Yes, I know these are all hackneyed phrases,

You know, the proverbial whatsisname,

But, no matter what you say, come what may,

It's OK by me, thanks all the same!

…'Cos I want to!

Thanks, mate!

It's Funny

Listen to the song: It’s Funny

Y’know, it’s funny

How a bloke can live a life

More or less alone,

In a happy vacuum between

Years before and years to come.

What are those years, anyway?

They’re gone, or on the way,

Part of another, vaguer, scene.

Y’know, it’s funny

How a bloke can change so soon,

One December day

When she arrives a little late,

To pledge herself all to him.

He knows, but doesn’t know,

That things are on the change,

That what will come will come what may!

Y’know, it’s funny

How a bloke can be re-born

When someone else is!

She, too, arrives a little late,

With much more fuss than her Mum!

Then life really begins

As a little life grows,

Grows, grows at a furious rate.

Y’know, it’s funny

How a bloke can win such joy

From a bit of him.

How fights and shouts and spanks and pranks

Blur and fade, yet grow and shine.

So comes today, this day,

No more is she a ‘child’ -

A woman now, but still the same.

Yes, it is funny, isn’t it!

Let's Go Off to Wars

Listen to the song: Let’s Go Off To Wars

My young friends, an enemy is across the sea,

They want our land and wealth.

They’re getting ready to dare to take us

By force and cunning stealth.

You must be steady, you must get ready,

You must believe in our cause.

Our life is far too dear to us, so

Let’s go off to wars.

The call has gone out, the call has gone out -

Muster to the call.

Your country calls, your comrades call:

Answer their call.

Empire’s youth, an enemy is across the sea,

Who wants our pride and wealth.

Who’s getting ready to dare to break us

By force and cunning stealth.

We must be steady, we must be ready,

We must fight those bloody Boers.

Our life is far too dear to us, so

Let’s go off to wars.

The call has gone out, the call has gone out -

Let us heed the call.

Your country calls, your comrades call:

Answer their call.

Allies brave, our enemies threaten the free -

They stalk our commonwealth.

They’re getting ready to dare to take us

By force and cunning stealth.

We must be steady, we must be ready,

Their guns are all aimed at our shores.

Our life is far too dear to us, so

Let’s go off to wars.

The call has gone out, the call has gone out -

Again we hear the call.

Your country calls, your comrades call:

Answer their call.

Free world men, enemies press in on all sides

To steal our lives and health.

They’re seeking the world unless we stop them

By force and clever stealth.

We must be steady, we must be ready,

Those commies care nothing for laws.

Our life is far too dear to us, so

Let’s go off to wars.

The call has gone out, the call has gone out -

Again we need the call.

Your country calls, your comrades call:

Answer their call.

There’s always an enemy around somewhere

Who wants ‘your land or self’.

Who’s getting ready to dare to take you

By force or cunning stealth.

You must be steady, you must be ready,

You must believe in our cause.

Your life is far too dear to them, so

Let’s go off to wars.

Again we hear the call.

Our country calls, our comrades fall:

Answer their call.

The call has gone out, the call has gone out -

Again we hear the call.

Our country calls, our comrades fall:

Answer their call.

Our comrades fall…

Our comrades fall…

Answer their call.

Lost Dogs, Home

Listen to the song: Lost Dogs, Home

Macleod had a crowd

Of dogs one day,

Running here and there.

They’d done what wasn’t allowed –

Got out to play,

Owners unaware.

Ross came back

No Cob, no Joe!

Alas!  Alack!

Oh woe, oh woe!

Up and down the streets he went,

Garbled prayers to heaven sent!

Language, no doubt, hell bent!

But he, like the dogs, on the scent!

Ross came back

No Cob, no Joe!

Alas!  Alack!

Oh woe, oh woe!

First he found the younger pup,

Happy as a lark,

Playing with a buttercup (?) and

Puzzled at a tree’s rough bark.

Ross came back

No Cob, just Joe!

Alas!  Alack!

Some woe, oh woe!

Then word came of number one –

Our story nears its climax –

Cobby was spotted on the run

Down at the barracks.

Ross came back

Soon Cob? Still Joe!

Alas!  Alack!

Some woe, less woe!

There she was, with the troops,

Marching up and down,

Dropping stuff that needed scoops,

But now a dog of renown!

Ross came back

Now Cobby and Joe!

Too much, too slack!

No woe to show!

And so it ends, this tale of tails,

Which I’ve had to relate,

If you don’t want any wails then

Lock that bloody gate!

Lock the gate, my son,

Lock the gate.

Lock the gate -

Don’t let them run.

Lock the gate,

Wherever you are,

Coz being dogless

Just ain’t fun.

No, being dogless

Just ain’t fun.

It just ain’t fun!

(Music by Suno AI)

Macneill of Barra

Listen to the song: Macneill of Barra

There is a small island across a black sea

Towards the sunset, westerly,

With long golden beaches, hills heather kissed,

Wide bays, still lochs, and sweet soft mist.

There lived a proud man

In castle of stone,

Loved by his clan, but

All alone

Macneill, Macneill,

Macneill of Barra.

And on that small island across the black sea,

Towards the sunset, westerly,

The lonely young chieftain wed his sweetheart:

Gold days, still nights, never apart.

There lived a proud man

In castle of stone,

Loved by his clan, yet

Still alone.

Macneill, Macneill,

Macneill of Barra.

The years slowly passed, he began to despair,

When would he get his son and heir?

Then came a night’s ending, goldening dawn –

From out of pain a son was born.

He was strong, he was fair,

Yes, from legends spun,

A father’s prayer was

His one son.

Macneill, Macneill,

Macneill of Barra.

Across their small island his son roamed so free,

His life a golden melody.

Along broad beaches, over the hills,

Jumping, running, swimming in rills.

Building a new man,

Well vers’d in life’s guile,

To lead the clan in

Yet awhile.

Macneill, Macneill,

Macneill of Barra.

Then away from their home, across the black sea,

The sounds of battle, stridently.

Alarums were sounded, loud was the call,

‘Help us!  Save us!  Answer our call!’

He sharpened his sword

And hefted his shield,

Gathered his horde, all

Hearts full steeled.

Macneill, Macneill,

Macneill of Barra.

They carried his body back o’er the black sea,

Along a gold path, westerly.

Back to the island home, to the old chief

Awaiting his son: grief, oh grief.

And there they were buried,

The old and the young,

Together again, and

Their song sung.

Macneill, Macneill,

Macneill of Barra.

Macneill, Macneill,

Macneill of Barra.

Together again, and

Their song sung.

(Music by Suno AI)

My Love Is Like a Red Red Rose

Listen to the song: My Love is Like a Red Red Rose

My love is like a red red rose

A garden where only beauty grows

With wond’rous vistas plainly seen

In each leaf of emerald green

My love is like a red red rose

A place which my heart so truly knows

There are many strange twists and turns

And sweet, tinkling, crystal burns

My love is like a red red rose

A land of rainbows and sunset glows

A place, a garden, tranquil sea

There, my dear, for you and me!

A place, a garden, tranquil sea,

There, my dear, for you and me!

A place, a garden, tranquil sea,

There, my dear, for you and me!

For you and me!

(After Robert Burns)

(Music by Suno AI)

The Highborns

Listen to the song: The Highborns

All of us Highborns,

Live above the rest,

We love to look down on them

Because we are the best.

What gives us Highborns

A life with little rest?

Tradition and good fortune,

From east to far off west.

It’s true that all are born,

Though not all born on high.

Enlightenment entitlement

Enables us to fly.

Where each of us is equal

Among our family others -

And procreate our sequels

With fathers making mothers.

It’s true that here on Earth

One’s worth is not measured

By one’s girth,

Nor the colour of one’s eyes,

But we’re to be pleasured

And should be treasured

From depths to boundless skies.

Everyone is born

Though not all born on high.

Some attempt to trumpet our horn

Forgetting that pigs don’t fly.

So how do you join our illustrious clan,

To ride with our privileged elite

On the correct side of the street?

Be a von, not a van!

And all the others

Have the grace to

Know their place:

Making it all complete.

(Music by Suno AI)

Where Flowers Grow

Listen to the song: Where Flowers Grow

Words can tell

The stories of loves;

Words can sing

Of the flights of doves.

Words can help us

Struggle through pain;

Words can bring life

Flowing back again.

Words tell us things

We didn’t know,

They make all our hearts

Sink or glow:

They tell us when to

Come or go…

You send them where they

Shouldn’t go:

The older, wiser,

Fast or slow -

To live or die,

Where flowers grow.

To live or die,

Where flowers grow.

Where flowers grow.

(Music by SunoAI)

Will She?

Listen to the song: Will She?

Will she wait for me

At the gate?

Will she know that I

Sigh for her?

Will we ever be?

A soldier I -

Paid to do or die,

A man who must plan only for

Tomorrow.

Will she be brave for me,

And save for me?

Will she pray for me or

Stray from me?

Will we never be?

A soldier I -

Paid to do or die,

A man who must plan only for

Tomorrow.

Will she wait for me?

Will she be brave for me?

Will she pray for me?

Or will she stray from me?

A soldier I -

Paid to do or die,

A man who must plan only for

Tomorrow.

Will she know that I

Died for her?

Tomorrow.

(Music by SunoAI)

The Cavalry

Listen to the song: The Cavalry

A kangaroo and a kiwi

Sat down to dinner one day.

Said the kiwi to the kangaroo,

‘Before we eat we pray.’

They sat there, the national pair,

The kiwi and the ’roo,

Replied the latter to the former,

‘Well, then, go on, cockle-doodle-do!’

But just then up flew a kooka,

Who landed in a tree,

And promptly said to the prior two,

‘How about a prayer, and some food, for me?!’

Well, one and two looked up at him

Perching near the sky,

And said, together, huffily, ‘If you must,

‘But wouldn’t you rather fly?!’

Before an answer came from the leaves

Other voices joined in:

Echidnas, parrots,  wombats and frogs!

Clamouring a dinner din.

Birds and beasts and creeping things

Came from near and far.

Even a flock of barrister birds

Looking for a muesli Bar!

Overhead the sky was dark

With more and more arriving,

Our ’roo and kiwi began to kark -

There was now no chance of surviving!

Yes, pretty soon we were all over there,

Shrieking our culinary wishes,

Hundreds, thousands, millions of fable,

Seated, raucously, at kiwi’roo table -

Thank God for loaves and fishes!!

(Music by SunoAI)

The Lady of My Land

Listen to the song: Lady of My Land

You were the lady of my land

When we met.

Reflections in the window, music from the band,

A swirling dancing set.

You were the lady of my land

As we walked along those roads,

Sharing life’s little loads,

You were the lady of my land.

And I love loving you,

I love loving you.

There’s a million things that I can do

But the best is loving you.

You were the lady of my land

When we wed.

Rainbowed glass in the window, as you took my hand,

Then timeless vows were said.

You were the lady of my land,

So we walked back up the aisle –

And I still wear that smile

For you, the lady of my land.

And I love loving you,

I love loving you.

There’s a million things that I can do

But the best is loving you.

You are the lady of my land

Still today.

I am framed in your window, and the picture’s grand:

Will never go away.

You are the lady of my land,

And when all is said and done,

After the setting sun,

You’ll stay the lady of my land.

And I love loving you,

I love loving you.

There’s a million things that I can do

But the best is loving you.

(Music by SunoAI)

My Dreamtime Land

Listen to the song: My Dreamtime Land

Dream, then, of Australia,

My Dreamtime land,

Of its far blue low-slung ranges

And sun-hot burning sand.

Dream, then, of Australia,

My Dreamtime land,

Dream on, dream for

My Dreamtime land.

Roads leading far beyond tomorrow,

Roads stretching from long ago,

Roads for me to travel

Across my Dreamtime land.

Dream, then, of Australia,

My Dreamtime land,

Of its dry and rocky rivers

And creeks beneath the sand.

Dream, then, of Australia,

My Dreamtime land,

Dream on, dream for

My Dreamtime land.

Roads leading far beyond tomorrow,

Roads stretching from long ago,

Roads for me to travel

Across my Dreamtime land.

Dream, then, of Australia,

My Dreamtime land,

Of its fields like foreign countries,

And threats from desert sand.

Dream, then, of Australia,

My Dreamtime land,

Dream on, dream for

My Dreamtime land.

Roads leading far beyond tomorrow,

Roads stretching from long ago,

Roads for me to travel

Across my Dreamtime land.
